I work with evidence-based methods. Which approach suits you best depends on your symptoms and what you need. Treatment is offered in English and Dutch.
- Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) — Focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviour. You learn to recognise and change unhelpful thinking patterns, and develop more effective ways of dealing with difficult situations.
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) — A form of behavioural therapy centred on acceptance. Instead of fighting unwanted thoughts and feelings, you learn to relate to them differently — and to act on what truly matters to you.
- EMDR — A proven effective method for processing traumatic experiences. By activating memories while your attention is simultaneously distracted, the trauma gradually loses its emotional charge.
- Schema therapy — Suitable for deeper-rooted patterns that have been present for a long time. Schema therapy focuses on early experiences that have shaped the way you think, feel and respond.
What does a course of treatment look like?
Treatment starts with one or two intake sessions. In these, we discuss your symptoms and what you are looking for help with, and together we draw up a treatment plan. We then work towards your goals in regular sessions.
How long treatment takes differs per person and per request for help. I work within Generalist Basic Mental Health Care (GB-GGZ), which means treatment is usually relatively brief — but I take the time that is needed. We regularly evaluate together how things are going and whether the approach still fits.
Waiting time
The waiting time for a first appointment is currently about 1 month. After the intake, treatment can usually start straight away.
